Where's the Justice?: Profit over Humanity

 Profit over humanity?
What caught my eye yesterday was a woman from Saudi Arabia receiving 10 lashes for driving. It's one of those stories you hear and you can't believe that you're living in the 21st century. On top of not being able to drive, these women are also not able to reveal any part of their skin, leave the country or even their house without a male chaperone. Travel back to America and you'll find our women living in direct contrast. Despite the cries of Saudi Arabian women for more freedom to do things that we couldn't do to what almost seems like a few decades ago (the right to vote), it seems that they fall on deaf ears to the American people. Why are we supporting their leader's decisions to oppress these women. One of the thoughts that immediately ran to my head was profit. It seems that our government will and will not make decisions to interfere when they see it will hurt or benefit their national interest in a country. The world can be seen as one big playground with America, China, and the European states being the most popular rich kids on the block, sometimes they can be extremely helpful and nice sharing their meals with other kids who might need it and other times they can be mean and ignore kids they don't agree with. But one of the most important things a popular person should do is set an example and be a role model to the people that look up to them. We have women across the world who see women in our country being able to drive, walk freely in the streets wearing whatever it is that we feel like grabbing out our closets, voting, and being able to attend college and get a great education. Now we, men and women alike, have to do our best to fight for other women and children who seem to be ignored and oppressed in their countries. We can't let the government seek out their profit from oil when lives are begging to be liberated. Let's be the bigger people and set the example for other countries to put human rights first above all else.
